Academic System

 

RTM Al-Kabir Technical University (RTM-AKTU)’s unique academic system aims to develop and deliver the highest quality technical and professional education, training and research using ground-breaking technology. RTM-AKTU will provide competence-based technical education and skills for sustained economic and social development. The University’s graduates will be able to be leaders in the identification and solution of complex technical challenges within society.

The University is committed to actively engage with communities, industries, and local and international academic institutions. This will be accomplished through a variety of ways that are of value and benefit to the community and University alike. The University will establish a Virtual Community Partnership Program (VCPP), which aims to create sustainable partnerships that provide an enduring benefit to local communities and partners.

The University will work as a central hub for shared learning in science, technology, innovation and will work with development organizations to mainstream proven solutions to generate global and national impact. The University shall have academic degree programs for all academic levels including post graduate degrees, Doctoral, and Post-Doctoral programs. It shall also have the power and authority to award certificates, diplomas and high academic distinctions in these programs and field of studies. The University shall also have the power and authority to award Honorary Degrees to distinguished personalities for their accomplishments in appropriate areas of their work, studies or other activities.

The University shall have full power and authority to provide programs in all branches of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), Business, Science, Engineering Technology and Allied Health Sciences, Agriculture, Textile, Industrial Science, Environmental Science, Social Science, Mass Media, Skill based Education, Programmatic and Financial Management; and confer degrees, diplomas and certificates to students in all these programs. The University will abide by the academic style of internationally and nationally recognized curriculum. In addition, all students of the University will have to undertake 5 Credit Courses in IT and English Communication skills during the first six months of a Course. Students will be encouraged to take other language courses during their study.

The students, including international students, who meet the admission criteria, will be eligible for admission. The University may also enroll students under any collaborative program established between two universities or in any other mechanism such as credit transfer, dual award or student exchange program. Admission will also be open to any person who wishes to transfer credits and/or pursue courses or a course as a non-degree student to improve knowledge or acquire new skills. Students are also admitted for specific certificate or diploma courses through University’s institutes and centers.

The University creates flexibility to allow students to personalize their program. All academic programs will be demand driven and career-focused, so students can develop the knowledge and skills needed for success in the professional world. Classes will incorporate practical learning and internship activities. Teaching will be informed by the latest research and industry trends. The University will foster internship/industry connection for hands-on training opportunities along with the academic program.


Integrated Learning:

RTM-AKTU will provide a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable hands-on work experience for building on and enriching academic studies. Adding work experience will enhance graduates’ skill and marketability (employment). The University will encourage job placements, clinical placements, and Internship work terms, research projects, and field projects. RTM-AKTU through its wide range of community and industrial partnerships will provide opportunities for all students to develop skills applicable for their future careers and to increase employability. The work-integrated learning concept will be integrated in programs both undergraduate and post-graduate level programs for helping students to:

Explore career interests and future career opportunities after graduation
Gain knowledge about job environments, professional communications, and work ethics
Gain relevant work experience and potential contacts for future employment in their relevant field


Work-based experiences are a requirement for all of the programs. Students in Diploma or Certificate programs will spend at least one month working in a full-time or a part-time (equivalent) Internship related to their field of study. Graduate certificate students will spend at least four months in a full-time as a requirement for their degree completion. RTM-AKTU will facilitate Internship placements in various institutes and partner organizations.

Academic Collaborations:

RTM-AKTU aims to enter into collaborative agreements with institutions that share its vision, goals, and commitment to academic excellence. There will be considerable scope for RTM-AKTU to collaborate more in the international area. Such collaboration would bring a number of advantages, including:

An increase in the academic opportunities and course offerings;
An increase in the capacity of RTM-AKTU to engage internationally;
An increase in learning opportunities for students to engage in different institutional arrangements.

The types of partnerships will be strategically selected that would be appropriate and attractive to University and student needs and interests.
